When we first visited this charming Washington Courthouse historical home, we fell in love with the tall ceilings and spacious rooms. Though the existing kitchen didn't make great use of the available real estate and felt a bit dark and disjointed, we knew that the space had some serious potential.
(BEFORE: the existing cabinets were beautiful and well-built, but the layout wasted a ton of usable space. By relocating the sink and refrigerator, we were able to fully utilize the space with functional prep and storage space.)
After exploring some style options, we realized that the homeowners were great candidates for a transitional style kitchen glow-up with soft, neutral colors. We started by gutting the space to give ourselves a blank canvas in which to reimagine the layout. We utilized an existing pantry closet to recess the refrigerator, so we could move it from its original space which had it hanging out awkwardly on its own between the two large windows.
We then added a run of modified pantry cabinets that added a huge amount of storage to a once blank wall. An eat-in island with a workstation sink and a custom hood along with several cabinet organizers rounded out the space, making this a kitchen that is far better suited to support the homeowner's love of cooking and hosting.
